Did I defeat the mountain or did the mountain win?
I had been saying HAWK was to come out this month, but I let the mountain get in the way. So I did the only thing I knew I could do- I climbed it.
With a group of amazing chicks, I did a four day backpacking trip. Slept in a tent at 10,000 feet, did some climbing and bouldering, while the daily bath was rinsing off in a cold mountain river. Since I spent the beginning of the month training and getting ready, I missed one goal of getting HAWK out, so I knew I would have to conquer the mountain. I hiked, scrambled and crab-crawled to 12,000 feet on unsteady ground to stand on top. I straddled the Continental Divide, skidded back down and I am here to say October 8- HAWK!
No mountains are getting in my way!!!!
PS I also threw in a two day 44 mile walk to get ready for that mountain. I salute my fellow walkers-ETC, CLH and COP.
Now back to writing.
